Fig Overnight French Toast
Ingredients
1/2 teaspoon divided ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon divided ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup milk
4 large eggs
1 cups half and half
1/2 loaf of franchisee or French bread
4 oz plus more for pan butter
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup dried figs chopped
2 tablespoons maple syrup
3 tablespoons water
Instructions
Slice French bread into 6 slices, 1-inch thick each and lay in a casserole dish.
In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half and half, milk, sugar, vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and salt and blend
Pour mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with the milk-egg mixture. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, preheat oven to 350 °F. Using a pastry cutter, mix butter, brown sugar, dried figs, walnuts, honey, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Spread topping evenly over the bread and bake for 25 to 30 minutes lightly golden. Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup. Enjoy!
